Update – Fire at Wickepin Waste Site The Wickepin Waste has been closed since 5 January due to a fire. The waste site will remain closed to the public until it is determined to be safe for all users

It is hereby notified for public information that in accordance with Section 75 of the Planning and Development Act 2005, the Shire of Wickepin has resolved to amend Town Planning Scheme No 4

In accordance with section 5.27 of the Local Government Act 1995 the Shire of Wickepin invites electors to attend the Annual General Meeting of Electors.

The Shire of Wickepin is pleased to announce the appointment of Kellie Bartley as its new Chief Executive Officer.

The Yealering ablution block is closed until further notice. Construction of the new amenities will commence soon.

Due to seasonal conditions, the Shire of Wickepin would like to advise our local community that the "Prohibited Burning Period" is being brought forward to 1 November 2023 and will cease midnight 7 February 2024. This means that no burning in the open air may occur during the above mentioned period. This is in accordance with section 17 (7) & (8) of the Bush Fires Act 1954 and in accordance with delegated authority under section 17 (10) of the Bush Fires Act 1954. The pool will be closed every second Tuesday from Tuesday 7 November 2023 except during VacSwim or Education Department swimming lessons. The 2023 Senior Christmas Lunch will be held on Friday 1 December 2023 at the Wickepin Community Centre, commencing at 11.30am. Mr Nathan Cain has tendered his resignation as Chief Executive Officer of the Shire of Wickepin and will finish in the role on Friday 6 October 2023. In accepting Mr Cain’s resignation, Shire President Julie Russell expressed Council’s appreciation on behalf of the community Mr Cain’s service to the Shire and extends best wishes to him for any future endeavour. Council has appointed Mrs Erika Clement as the Acting Chief Executive Officer and will shortly be commencing a recruitment process for Mr Cain’s successor.

An Ordinary Postal Election will be held on Saturday, 21 October 2023 in the Shire of Wickepin to fill the following vacancies: District 3 Councillors 4 year terms Nominations Open on Thursday, 31 August 2023 Nominations Close at 4:00pm Thursday, 7 September 2023 Nominations must be lodged with the Returning Officer: • at any time during the above period by arrangement; or • between 2:00pm and 4:00pm Thursday, 7 September 2023 (close of nominations) at the Shire of Wickepin, 77 Wogolin Rd, WICKEPIN.

In accordance with the Local Government Act 1995 section 5.25 the Shire of Wickepin amends the date of the September 2023 Ordinary Council Meeting to Wednesday 13 September 2023, with the time to remain unchanged (commencing 3.30pm).

The Shire of Wickepin advises it has incurred illegal dumping of bulk asbestos at the Wickepin, Yealering and Harrismith Waste Facilities. The Wickepin Waste Facility has been re-opened, and the Yealering Waste Facility will re-open tomorrow (Saturday 12 August 2023). Unfortunately the Harrismith Waste Facility will remain closed until further notice. This action has been taken in the interest of public safety, and the appropriate authorities advised. Containment of the asbestos has been undertaken in accordance with requirements, however users of the facilities are advised to maintain a safe distance from the marked areas. Signage and fencing is in place. I apologise for this action and acknowledge the inconvenience the closure of these Waste Facilities is causing the community, however this is outside the Shire’s control. Please report any illegal waste dumping via the Pollution Watch Service on 1300 784 782.
