Recycling & Waste Management

The Shire of Wickepin prides itself on its recycling and waste management program and is leading the way with its innovative recycling depot and waste water re use plant.

A Shire of Wickepin Rubbish Truck

Wickepin’s recycling depot receives materials from the towns within the shire as well as from Cuballing and Popanyinning. Quite a lot of paper comes from Narrogin businesses.

Paper, magazines and cardboard make up the greatest tonnage of materials sold. They also bring the greatest return.

The main aim of the program is the betterment of the environment by reducing land fill and pollution, not as a money raising venture.

Up until July of last year 3½ tonnes of aluminium cans, 50 tonnes of newspapers, magazines and cardboard and 7 tonnes of glass have been sold.

Rubbish Collection

Each home in the townsites of Wickepin and Yealering are supplied with 2 bins. One for household waste and one for recycling, which has a yellow lid, for recycling materials only. These bins are collected weekly on different days and are emptied at the recycling depot (located on Richter St, Wickepin) by the shire.

Recycling

The recycled items are sorted on a specially designed sorting table and sold to various recycling businesses.
